(Political) Statement Jewellery

Fashion is no stranger to controversy or breaking boundaries when it comes to making a political statement.

F*ck the Tories (@fuckthetoriesjewellery) is an online brand bringing a whole new definition to statement jewellery.

Inspired by a similar necklace purchase by a friend via Etsy, and in a bid to raise money for Calais Action, the decision was made to sell political jewellery to (a handful) of friends online.

Online vic-tory (for the brand)

Due to the combination of social media and mainstream media, the creators were, “essentially forced to set up a company to handle all the orders!”, as the designs went viral.

Co-owner Libby Freeman, 38, currently based in Bali, tells us:

“We planned to ask the girl on Etsy to make a few more (necklaces) but it went viral right after I posted it on Facebook. We had approximately 1000 orders for the necklace within a week!”

Greeted with a slightly unorthodox statement aka ‘Welcome Tory Hater’, accompanied by Boris Johnson on a zip line with the British flag burning, the website is an influx of political accessories. The pieces (rings, necklaces, earrings) focus on Tory Government, Daily Mail, and Brexit, costing up to £22.

“It’s really important that it’s as affordable as possible so most people can have one if they want one”, explains Freeman.

“Just the occasional angry gammon”

Although you’d anticipate political jewellery to receive a negative backlash, Freeman tells us that there’s only been the “occasional angry gammon on social media.”

As the follower count and website continue to grow, as does the websites future plans.

“We’ve just started up American and Australian versions with stock going out from New York and Melbourne. The focus will be on the F*ck Trump website in the build-up to the US election. From London, we’ll carry on doing what we’re doing and have a few new designs planned,” Freeman explains.

If you’re unafraid to express your political beliefs or stir a debate at the local pub, this is the go-to jewellery brand for you.
