At the start of January 2019 I vowed that my frivolous spending sprees must come to a halt. Not just for the sake of a dwindling bank balance, but to be more eco conscious. Is my TEN pink coat collection really necessary? (I wish I was exaggerating)
My shopping ‘ban’ was a strange adjustment that lasted till April, until I caved into buying a new birthday dress. The experience taught me two things; a lot of purchases are often unnecessary and that browsing Asos isn’t a productive hobby.
Fast forward to 2020 and I’ve realised that I’m one of those people, the people who are actually influenced by posts on social media. Yet we’ve all been there, making purchases purely because such and such looked amazing on their Instagram post. Purchases such as….
Alexa… Play Teenage Dirtbag by Wheatus
Bucket hats are back. However, I haven’t actually seen anyone wear the questionable throwback accessory in public.
Note to self: Just because Emma Miller looks amazing in a bucket hat, doesn’t mean that I will.
Cardigans
My spirit animal is evidently Mean Girls character Bethany Byrd – “I saw a blogger wearing a cardigan, so I bought various cardigans.”
Cardigans are the new top, and I want one in every colour. What they don’t tell you on captions is that wearing a cardigan off shoulder requires a lot of readjusting, and I’d definitely recommend that you wear something underneath to avoid a nip slip!
Organza sleeves
Lorna Luxe’s collections with In The Style sparked my love for exaggerated sleeves.
This 80s inspired trend has thankfully continued into Spring/Summer 2020 and will remain in my wardrobe for the foreseeable future.
Will I continue to be influenced by Instagram? Yes.
It’s fun to experiment with fashion, but I’m now mindful that buying into trends might be a complete waste of money.
