COVID-19 has caused chaos, devastation and altered the lives of many throughout the world.
Due to the UK government enforcing a lockdown this week, we are all (aside from key workers) staying at home, with a LOT of hours to fill.
During the midst of uncertainty, various influencers have been posting more and more regular content to keep their followers entertained across all of their social media platforms. Such as Josie Fear, aka Fashion Mumblr, who has posted daily videos to her YouTube Channel. Whilst Freddy Cousin-Brown has completely abandoned her Monday upload schedule to provide followers with more frequent videos.
Influencers are providing us with a sense of community by creating distractions, such as Toni Eaton.
Toni Eaton is a blogger from Newcastle who categorizes her platform North East Finds as ‘family fun.’ Since the start of COVID-19 this blogger has had to rethink her blogging strategy, as 70% of her content heavily consisted of events and outdoor based activities, to adapt to the current crisis.
“Since the virus have I began two groups, one for the charity I work with which we have decided to base on mental health for children, and the second group I have started as a source area for kids who are in isolation at the moment including – online sources, educational print out sheets, craft ideas and live events.”

Across Instagram influencers are continuing to post their usual content, yet COVID19 is often addressed rather than being a taboo subject. Lucy Flight documented her 7 day isolation via Instagram to her 155k followers, as she experienced social distancing and symptoms prior to the UK lockdown, by posting comedic content. Flight also continues to update her stories after every Government broadcast by summarising key points, for individuals who don’t watch the news.
A blogger from London, Laura Blair, who has the virus, also took to IGTV to raise awareness.
Although it’s not the 2020 we were all hoping for, and having a LOT of hours to fill may be daunting, this is only temporary. Here’s our list of things to do in the meantime –
Things to do during lockdown
- Maybe it’s their colourful Instagram grid, but ordering a leopard print pair of skates from Impala Rollerskates doesn’t seem like a bad idea right now? We are allowed to exercise for an hour a day after all!
- Download ‘House Party’, grab a glass (or bottle) of wine, and video call all of your besties. An ideal way to catch up, and become quiz masters before the pubs reopen.
- Purchase Disney+ and relive your childhood
- You’ll have heard it everywhere, but EXERCISE. Order an exercise bike, wipe the dust from long forgotten equipment or follow a routine via Youtube. A wise Elle Woods once said, “Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy.”
